2019-04-12 09:33:55Allen MisselbrookThis is a long shot but I grew up on Bilsham Farm when it was beingg farmed by Colin Loveys in the 1950's and 60's, in Yapton and am now Chairman of the Local History Group. I am currently writing a short history of Bilsham and would love to contact any of Colin Loveys' family who would like to help me with any information you may like to share.
2019-03-18 15:59:11Mark Loveys NZHi Mark, Interesting - it shows that we don`t have all the Loveys` linked in to our family tree on this site. You and I are the only current Marks listed. I'm sure there will be more out there! :)
2019-03-18 15:56:11Mark Loveys NZHi Katherine - please refer to the Loveys Family Tree link on the main page of this web site. You will find a considerable amount of Loveys family tree data there, kindly contributed by Keith Loveys (UK). Refer to the Contact Details page to communicate directly with Keith and/or me. Please let us know how you get on with your family tree. We are always interested in further research.
2019-02-14 02:06:56Mark Loveys (UK)I just discovered there's a third Mark Loveys. He has a FB account and lives in the US somewhere. (I messaged him by accident. I meant to message the NZ Mark Loveys)! Anyway, the reason I write is - has anyone tried to put together any sort of family tree for all of us lot? Even if just for the past three generations or so it would be interesting. My aunt has done one for the Northamptonshire branch but it would be interesting to try to tie at least one or two sections up. Happy to contribute if it helps.

Mary married Philip Rose...I would love to connect with any cousins on this line. Also, My great aunt, Annie MacNeil from Cape Breton, married Esau Loveys and they lived in Western Bay, Newfoundland and had a daughter Emily. Anyone connect to either of these families? I'm wondering if Esau and Mary were related through the Loveys? Any help would be greatly appreciated! So glad to have found your message board, going to look over your site now!

2012-07-31 05:16:02Kevin HarrisGreat website, I am descended from Rose Loveys (b1775) and William Brockington (b 1775). Just a quick question, John Loveys, 681 and 341 and are both marrying 7 May 1799 in Moreton hampstead? I think John Loveys (341) is correct as the Moretonhampstead History society has his burial as 14 Mar 1857, aged 84. John Loveys (681) has a marriage in Moretonhampstead on 7 May 1799 but no spouse for the 1st marriage. Regards Kevin

2011-07-10 11:09:25ward loveysmy family (originally in Canada from Newfoundland) pronouces LOVEYS as Lovees although I incurred puberty anxiety by being called "Lovey Dovey", the song title by the Clovers in the `50s, still available on YOUTUBE today!
2011-04-25 22:05:30Dawn LouiseLoveysHi Keith I was just reviewing the site and notice I typed in a 1 with the 3 Therefore My date of birth January 3 1958.
2011-04-02 17:32:38Peter Clampitt LoveysI wonder if we all pronounce our name the same way. My family (originally from Devon UK) have always used LOVEES but I remember at school there was one teacher who insisted on LOVISS. Then there was LOVISE. Tell us what you use and any unusual ones you have received. We lived for several years in Montreal and the French Canadians never had any trouble with our name!
2011-02-27 14:54:45Valerie LoveysHello from Nova Scotia, Canada. I am the youngest of seven children to James Newton Loveys and Margaret Crummey. I would love to connect with family members. Email: val_loveys@hotmail.com
2011-02-23 17:58:28Dawn Louise LoveysHi Keith, I just want to update you that I was born January 13 1958 not 1959. best regards Dawn Loveys
2011-02-22 06:15:18Jan DawsonThis is a response to Rob Smith written 1/12/2008 My husbands 2x great grandparents were John Pinsent, I think born 1823 Ilsington and Elizabeth Loveys, I think born 1818 Hennock. I have found a few possibilities tracing back but the names seem to be pretty common in Devon so it is deiffiult to prove from where I am in Canada. Their daughter Ann married James Grant Hannaford Hill. My husband descends from their daughter Laura who settled in Galt Ontario. There is a branch in Detroit USA.
2011-01-04 19:09:53lynda loveysMy husband`s Dad (Albert) is from Newfoundland. His Grandfather was a fisherman and lost his life at sea. Grandmother lmigrated to Toronto after losing her husband.

2010-07-29 19:09:20Rebecca Loveys (CAN)Hi, I`ve been trying to research some of my ancestry to find out where my blood comes from. I didn`t realize there were so many people with the last name Loveys! I know for certain that Jordan (post from 28/12/2005) is my first cousin. His father Mathew Loveys is my father`s brother (Christopher Loveys) and are the children of Red and Muriel Loveys. But thats as far as I`ve gotten. It`s crazy to think people so far away might be my relatives, and there seems to already be a Rebecca Loveys.
2010-07-25 21:38:30Mark E Loveys (UK)Hello Loveyses far and wide. My branch of the family hails from Northampton, England. My grandfather Arthur had 2 sisters and this was thus the only one to pass down the name. He had two daughters and a son, Richard (aka Dick) who was born in 1931. He died in 1992. One of his sisters survives him, Pamela, and she is married and lives in Northampton. Margaret never married, was a midwife in Northampton and died tragically young in 1978. My father married Margaret Rush (from Northampton) who survives him, however she is very poorly with Alzheimer`s and is now in a nursing home in Kettering. They had four sons, Ian (b. 1954), me (b.1957), Robert (b. 1961) and Richard (b. 1969). Tragically Ian died in May aged just 55. It was very sudden and unexpected and we are all, naturally, devastated. He leaves a wife, Sue, and two daughters: Kathryn (b 1987) and Amy (b 1991). I have a son Dan (b 1988) who is studying biomedical sciences and is a drummer in a (very) heavy metal band. I also have a daughter Rebecca (b 1991) who is studying music with piano, harpsichord and oboe as her main instruments. My wife Sally is a teacher. Rob has two children: Megan aged 15 and Harry aged 11. Richard has a daughter, Beth, aged 15. I have met NZ Mark a couple of times down here in Dorset and last time met his dad. Delightful people. That`s all for now. Wishing you all well. Mark

2010-03-14 04:00:38Paul LoveysHi Barbara Having a quick look at freebmd and on Ancestry. Samuel Loveys and Grace Emma Dunn married in the March quarter 1896, volume 5b, page 260 in Newton Abbot district. Getting the marriage certificate would give you his fathers name. I looked at the 1891 census and only two Samuels appeared one aged only one year so disregarded him, the other was a lodger aged 20. Looked at the 1881 census for Samuel aged 10 and found him in Hennock with his Grandparents William (aged 60) and Charlotte (58) there are also Uncles and or father William, 25 and Albert 18. Couldn`t find them on the 1871 census but on the 1861 William and Charlotte are in Hennock with children John, 12, Ellen 7, William 5, Samuel 3, and Mary Jane 10 months. Also living with them is Elizabeth Black mother in law of William aged 72 giving Charlottes maiden name for you. Your Samuels birth is registered in Newton Abbot in the September quarter 1870 volume 5b, page 125. His birth certificate will give you both parents names. Hope this helps. Regards Paul
2010-03-11 00:32:15BarbaraHollowaynee LoveysJust to say congratulations on this marvellous site, thankyou. Still no news of Samuel`s mother or indeed father, a mystery. His wife my grandmother was Grace Dunn.
2010-02-09 07:30:18Keith LoveysHi Eleanor If you let me have an email address, I will check out a few bits and pieces and send over the details regards Keith
2010-02-01 14:32:36Eleanor BaldicHi: I have a Thomas Lovis, mar.ca 1716 to a Sarah (?), no record of birth or marriage in USA.They had 11 children, including 3 sets of twins:Samuel, Aaron, William,Thomas, Mary Sarah,Elizabeth,Alice, Martha, Peter,,Alice. The only clue I have found is the fact that Samuel, Aaron, William and Thomas Loveys are common names in Devon and Cornwall, England.Thought maybe my Thomas could be the one born in Devon in 1687 to a Joan ?.because he also used the same names , Aaron, Samuel, William and thomas.I notice you have nothing further on the Thomas born in 1687 in Devon. Maybe he came to New England.
2010-02-01 14:20:02eleanorHi: I have a Thomas Lovis, m. ca 1716,lived In MAss. USA, died about 1736-1748.No record found in USA as to birth and Marriage. He married a Sarah (...)their children:Samuel,Aaron,Thomas,William, Mary, Sarah,Elizabeth,Martha,Alice and Peter. my clues lead to England because of similiar names, thought there could be a connection. He had 3 sets of twins, 5 of whom lived and married. Unusual in the 1700`s they survivied. The thomas Loveys born in 1687 may be him - who knows.

2009-09-24 02:14:08Paul Edward CleaveAt the Westcountry Studies Library in Exeter, Devon I recently saw an unidentified photograph of `Lovey`s cafe and confectioners`. Does anyone know where the cafe was located? Is there a Westcountry association? Best regards, Paul
2009-09-09 16:44:23Keith LoveysHi John could you or your brother Jim let us have your email address or get in touch with us at keith@loveys.net it would be great to add your information to the website
2009-09-02 15:53:56John LoveysHello, My ex worked on Encyclopedia of Newfoundland. She once told me that the NF Loveys were descended from a William, who landed in St. John`s in 1799, and was a fish merchant. I can`t confirm her sources, but I hope this provides a lead to people trying to trace things down. My father was born in Western Bay, so Lorie Coffin and I are almost certainly related somehow. My brother Jim is the genealogist in my immediate family, so I will try to get him to post something. All the best.
2009-08-02 09:54:00Elizabeth ClarkThis is nothing at all to do with the Loveys, I am afraid but I have a birth certificate for my aunt`s business partner who was born at Ogbeare Hall in 1908. She was the daughter of Montague Johnstone described as Late lieutenant of the Royal Scots Greys who lived there then. I dont know if this might be of any interest to people researching the history of the hall. regards, Elizabeth Clark
2009-07-23 06:37:18Diane (Coish) WhelanI believe I made a mistake in my last message. Abigail Ann Loveys was my Great Grandmother and not my grandmother. Same goes for Edward Crummey Coish. Thanks Sorry if this caused any confusion

2009-05-28 04:40:54Lynne Loveys KaneHi everyone. I periodically check this site and have begun to piece together my family history using this site. It has been a mystery for many years. My grandfather was Albert Loveys, born in St. John`s Newfoundland (where I live too). He was born in 1898 and died in a car accident in 1941. He left 4 children, Daphne (1934-2009), Alwyn (1935-1976)who is my father, Robert (I think b1938) and Cynthia (I think b1941). I have just reconnected with the Loveys` side of my family after many years and we are piecing together quite a bit of information. I`ve referred them to this site as well. It seems as if we have some cousins who have left their emails on this message board. Hello all, would love to hear from you.kanefamily@nf.sympatico.ca
2009-05-11 09:07:06Lorie CoffinHey, everyone! I was so excited to see all this information on the web. I live in British Columbia now but I am from Newfoundland. My grandmother is Gladys Loveys from Western Bay. Her parents are Thomas and Mary Loveys, her brothers and sisters are Albert, Wilson, James Newton, Minnie, Lillian, and Guy. I see some of my closer relatives on this message board! Most of Gladys` children reside in St. John`s Newfoundland. I would love more information on the parents of Thomas Loveys. May God bless the Loveys family!

2007-12-30 21:15:23Melissa LoveysI just looked at myself under the name search, and I was there! (I was surprised, actually.) I just wanted to make a correction and an addition. My birthday is actually 1990, not 1991, and I was born in Gander, Newfoundland (but I think I mentioned that before).
2007-12-30 21:03:21Melissa LoveysHello! I`m Paul Loveys (BC)`s daughter (posted below). Some of uncles and such posted, too. And, actually, I`m the "computer whiz", not Larissa. Haha. Anyway, I`m from Gander, Newfoundland (except I live in BC now, whatever).

2007-09-30 20:50:18Mark Loveys (NZ)Hi Everyone,
In case you haven`t noticed, there is now a new link on the home page of this site called "Ogbeare Hall" which displays some interesting new information we`ve received from Sarah Goodwin, who lives at Ogbeare.
If anyone has any further information or questions on the subject, please refer these to me, thanks Mark L (NZ).
2007-09-21 06:03:26Martyn LoveysLot of postings since my last visit! Hi Teresa - yes fine ty. Tom, hello - belated congratulations. Gareth - hello son!
2007-09-06 11:12:16Mark Loveys (NZ)Hi Tom, congratulations on the birth of your new daughter!
I will try and make contact with Keith as I haven`t heard from him in a while and he`s done wonders in putting together the family tree so far (and we`re always keen to keep building it). Cheers Mark Loveys in NZ.
2007-09-06 09:15:23Tom LoveysHi all! I know its a little late, but thought I`d announce the birth of my daughter Lillia Mary Loveys on 8th July 2007, another member for the family tree. Hi Mark, my mum (Teresa) kmows lots of the family tree, but as yet, we don`t know Keith. Its a small world!
2007-08-25 15:18:20OVGuillermoThank you for your site. I have found here much useful information. Good site ! ;)
2007-08-15 01:23:57Teresa Loveys (Suffolk)Mum to Tom and Sam Loveys. Hi Gareth and Martyn - hope you`re both well and all the family also. For those interested in Ogbeare Hall, I have an auction sale catalogue dating back to July 1936 (recent really I know considering the history of the house) when the whole estate came up for sale. It makes really interesting reading considering the auctioneer`s statement on the catalogue that it would go for "an upset price of £11,500 for the whole"!! It has some black & white pictures of the Hall and surrounding farms.

Hi Gordon, thanks also for dropping by. It`s good to know there are other Loveys` down-under. Where abouts in South Australia are you ?
2007-05-09 21:39:31Tom LoveysA bit of boredom once again and came across this site. I didn`t realise there were so many Loveys`. Gareth, who posted 29/3 is my cousin, haven`t seen you for ages! I live in East Anglia, England, my mum is Teresa Loveys, my dad Jeremy Loveys and my brother Sam Loveys. I`m expecting a baby in July, so there will be another little Loveys to report soon.
2007-04-20 11:09:09Gordon LoveysHello, I now live in South Australia, and my family have been here since 1966.I am just beginning to search for my ancestors, and have already found a long lost cousin in Plymouth England, who in turn has put me onto this site. I was convinced that not too many could carry `our` name, always being told how unusual it is.I was even happier to find that we have a coat of arms. Well done to one and all for the reseach, and for putting together this web page. I have noticed my grandmothers name in the list, how would I find her connecting tree on here?
2007-04-14 15:09:29Peter Loveys ** Hello Sarah Hayward ** We were very interested in your message of 19/10/2006 in which you said that you lived at Ogbeare Hall, built originally by the grandfather of Leonard Loveys about 1500! We would love to learn more about Ogbeare Hall and North Tamerton church where there is a wall plaque in memory of Leonard Loveys. Please contact me at peter@loveys.net or my son Mark who is the webmaster of this site.(We are a long way away in New Zealand!)
2007-03-29 00:19:00Gareth LoveysMark E Loveys (England), I am pleased to confirm that the coat of arms is the real deal! My Father (Martyn Loveys) has the exact same thing hung to a wall in his study, I believe it belonged to my Grandfather (John Colin Loveys).
2007-03-07 22:24:41Zoe Loveys hello its me zoe
2007-02-19 11:25:57Daniel LoveysI also forgot to say, if any of you have myspace mine is: www.myspace.com/hubbabagorg Dan!
2007-02-19 11:24:13Daniel LoveysHi, I am the son of Mark Loveys (UK) and in my boredom have stumbled upon this site. So, to start of: hey all! Hehehe, I had no idea that there were so many of us, other than my immediate family. I have noticed that Mark Loveys, NZ, is musical, so is my dad, and to keep the family trait so am I. I play drums, bass and guitar. So yeah, it is quite cool finding all of this. Hope to hear from some of you before long! Dan!
2006-12-31 05:01:47Bob FairchildA distant cousin Eliza(beth) Jenner married George Loveys, possibly the lawyer in 1881 Census Toronto. The Jenner family went from Yeovil, England to Fulton Co, NY to Acton, Ontario. Eliza(beth) and the Loveys children eventually moved to Johnstown, Fulton Co, NY where her brother Harry had moved and her brother George later did. (I haven`t found her with George Loveys, yet) I have Eliza(beth) (Jenner) Loveys in 1900, 1920, and 1930 Census Johnstown. For their father Henry`s obit as well as brother Charles` (which both mention her) search bmd for Jenner at: http://news.halinet.on.ca/ for her brother Harry`s bio see: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/state/his/bio/pt64.html Harry Jenner was later mayor of Johnstown. I`m in touch with some descendants of George and Eliza(beth) (Jenner) Loveys and will post more when I get it. Bob
2006-12-02 14:33:31Mark Loveys (NZ)Hi Mark Loveys (UK), Sorry to hear of your accident, I hope your arm is healing well. Glad you like the photo! Hope you have a great Christmas.
2006-11-08 08:51:22Mark Loveys (NZ)Hi Sarah, thanks for visiting our site. We would like to find out more about Ogbeare Hall. Please could you email me at mark.loveys@loveys.net
2006-10-19 03:14:35sarah HaywardHello Loveys peeps everywhere! I have been doing a little research on my own family tree (nothing to do with you lot at all!). I got fed up, hit a wall and decided to do a little more research on my current residence. I live at Ogbeare Hall which was originally built by, I believe, the grandfather of Leonard Loveys, ex tax collector for Devon and Cornwall to Elizabeth the 1st. The old building (orinally built in about 1500) was much altered by the victorians, but the best bit was kept - the medieval banquetting hall. It is very much like Cotehele, but with heating! I live here with my family and am very aware of past generations. No ghosts to speak of, but a really good feeling, particularly good vibes around children and loud music! (instruments such as the Tuba, the drums and bass guitar are regularly practiced in the hall). It was a particularly good space for a recent large party. So I just wanted any decendants of the Loveys know that this house is being loved and cared for still. Best wishes on you family history.
2006-10-10 14:03:22A.Bruce LoveysHello
2006-10-06 07:16:39Mark Loveys (UK)Hello all you Loveys`s. Well, as promised I went to Devon recently - the apparent Eden of our family - and managed to break my elbow in Agatha Christie`s boathouse. Am now in a full-arm plaster cast pending possible surgery and expect a little sympathy! I mused a little on our family origins en-route, did a little maths, (or math, as our cousins over the pond insist on calling it), and worked out that even though I may be related to Leonard Loveys who died in 1576 eighteen generations ago, I actually have 524,288 ggggggggggggggggg-grandparents of whom he was just one, so the Loveys blood has become a little watered down in the intervening years. This is the problem with family origins. Go back twenty generations and you have more gggggggggggggggggg-grandparents than the entire population of England at that time! Mind boggling ain`t it? With very best wishes to you all. p.s. to NZ Mark Loveys - that`s a very fetching photo of you and me in Christchurch! Hope you had a good trip back.
2006-09-18 06:56:34Bernard LoveysHas anyone information on Loveys family Stafford UK ? I am Bernard, my brother is John, and my sister is Joyce. Father Harry Loveys born 13-May-1896. His brothers William,Edwin,Fred.
2006-08-11 14:11:44Ward LoveysHello Michael Winter. I was fortunate to view your Western Bay Newfoundland house in June 2005. I may be able to put you in touch with one of my relatives to answer your questions. You are welcome to contact me at jward305@hotmail.com
2006-07-17 01:13:30Joseph LoveysI`m curious about how common or rare this name is, and where people with this name live, and how many. A distribution chart of different regions and countries would be interesting. I`m assuming it`s mainly only in English-speaking nations. P.S. if the site maker wants a photo one of me is available, taken in 2001, on a google images search.
2006-07-09 22:40:50Mark Loveys (UK)Keith. I just read your message of March 2005. Sorry to be a little tardy in replying. About 20 years ago I had a search done on `Loveys` at a rural trade fair and they came up with the idea that the family name originates from a small town called `Louviers` in Northern France. As you know, I am a little cynical about these companies wanting to make a buck out our fascination for family origins. i also got given a coat of arms, but canot find it. It is probably buried up in the loft somewhere. My then new wife, Sally, and I travelled to Louviers on our first summer holiday together in 1987. It is an unremarkable, but very quiet and pleasant, little market town near Elboeuf (I seem to remember). We spend a very agreeable couple of days camping there before moving on to Brittany. It is a nice idea, and I would love it to be true, however I could find no evidence of any Louviers or even De Louviers families. My grandmother, now deceased, always used to say the family came over with the Norman conquest in 1066. So who knows? Does anyone else have any ideas? (mark.loveys@btinternet.com)
2006-07-09 22:27:19Mark Loveys (UK)My - what a lot of Loveys`s. The only time I met a Loveys outside my own Northamptonshire (UK) branch was Mark Loveys (NZ) last year when he dropped by in Dorset with his partner and we had a very agreeable lunch by the river. (Hope you are fine Mark, if you read this.) Best wishes to you all. (mark.loveys@btinternet.com)
2006-06-26 05:42:51Michael WinterI just bought an old home on Southside Road in Western Bay that was built by an Ormsby Loveys and perhaps George Levi Loveys. Nellie Loveys and Gertrude Loveys grew up in the house. Does anyone know anything about Ormsby? Who his parents are?

2006-05-11 14:31:12Lynne Loveys KaneHi Loveys, it seems as if the loveys` family is not that large. we seem to have setted in wales, Nf, nz, aus, can, and possibly other places. I am interested in tying together some kind of family tree. Thanks from lynne. Also thanks to keith, wherever you live!!!

2006-03-28 20:53:41Martyn LoveysPaul to clarify you postings of 5 & 7/9/05, as far as I am aware the Loveys Road in Yapton is named after my grandfather, also Walter Loveys, who was on Yapton Parish Council and Chichester Rural Distric Council for many years and also farmed the land upon which the road was built. He was the father of Walter Harris Loveys (my uncle) to whom Richard Childs refers. Hope this is of use.
2006-02-11 00:46:04Joseph LoveysHey. I`m from Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. Two of my brothers put a message here before. I believe my father was from Western Bay, Newfoundland and mother from Belle Island, Newfoundland. I have six brothers in Canada.
2006-01-14 15:43:30Elizabeth MartinWhat a wonderful site this is. I am connected to the Loveys quite a way back through Jane Brimacombe who married Mark Lovey. Have lovely photo of them on their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Also of Jill and her father Gerald
2006-01-12 02:57:25Mark Loveys (NZ)Hi Melonie & Jordan, thanks for your feedback. I`m sure that Keith Loveys (who does most of the research for this site) would be keen to make contact with you to possibly help link in your parts of the family tree. His email address is keith@loveys.net and my email address is mark@loveys.net Thanks

2005-12-28 19:38:35Jordan LoveysI am fairly interested in this site. i came upon it by typing in my last name to see what I could find, and I have found this. All that I know so far about the Loveys is that my grandfather (disceased) came from England after the second war with my grandmother, where they moved to Vancouver Island and had 6 children who live across the continent, one of which is my father who my mother and I live with on Vancouver Island. I understand that my grandfather`s name was Red, any ideas to point me in the right direction? I looked on the family tree and got confused. I`ll talk to my grandma about this!
2005-12-22 04:30:29Paul Loveys (UK)Just wishing all Loveys` and families wherever you are a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

2005-09-07 00:41:49Paul Loveys UKI emailed West Sussex record office and this is the reply I received the next day, thought you might be interested; Dear Mr Loveys Thank you for your e-mail regarding Loveys Road in Yapton. It would seem likely that the road was named after Walter H Loveys who was MP for the Chichester Constituency and who died in March 1969. He was born at Bilsham in Yapton, went to Lancing College, farmed locally and lived in the area for most of his life. The Vicar of Yapton conducted the funeral service at Yapton Church, together with the Bishop of Chichester and the Vicar of Felpham and Middleton-on-Sea. He was reported as saying " Mr Loveys was born into a family which will always bear an honoured and respected name in the village. He was baptised in Yapton and grew up here". The road is not shown on the Ordnace Survey 6 inch map of 1962 but it is on the 25 inch map of 1975, so this would tie in with the naming as a memorial to Mr Loveys after his death. I hope this is of some help. Yours sincerely Richard Childs County Archivist West Sussex Record Office County hall Chichester West Sussex PO19 1RN
2005-09-05 06:34:19Paul LoveysIf you want to see the map of Loveys Road go to www.multimap.com and type in Loveys Road. I am trying to find out if it was named after a Loveys will let you know the outcome.
2005-08-17 21:42:42Mark Loveys (NZ)Today I saw evidence of a "Loveys Road" in Yapton, West Sussex, England....

2005-08-11 23:16:09Carol Loveys Butler NashuHi everyone... I was thrilled to find this site. I am a Loveys from the US side and have just e-mailed Keith telling him I will update him on the Arthur Loveys branch. Arthur was my great-grandfather and he and my great-grandmother came to the US before my grandfather was born. They settled in Massachusetts and have several descendants including my brother Robert Kent Loveys and myself.

2005-06-16 03:10:32Paul Loveys UKNice to see so many Canadian Loveys` on here. I`ve recently given Keith some attestation papers of Loveys` that joined up in Canada during the First World War, these gave their home addresses in Canada and their next of kins address`, or birth address` in Devon. So hopefully Keith will be able to make a connection with some of the families in the UK and Canada.
2005-06-15 15:31:58Ward LoveysAtt: Lynne Loveys Kane My e-mail is jward305@hotmail.com Can you contact me? My Grandfather and father were Newfoundlanders. Thanks
2005-06-11 02:54:59Lynne Loveys Kane Hi, surprised to find this site -have been periodically checking the internet over the past 9 years to find other "Loveys`" out there. I am from Newfoundland, Canada, and know of about five families from here and we are all related somehow. I believe my grandfather is the Albert Loveys born in St. John`s Newfoundland on Sept. 1898. He was accidently killed in 1941 leaving four children. My father died in 1976 when I was 14 and I have lost touch with his family. I do have some info of Newfoundland based Loveys` for those who may be interested in filling in some gaps about the Canadian decendents. You can email me at . I am very new at the family tree stuff but seeing this website is incentive to search more. I have noted that there is not much info on the Canadian settlers, yet. Thanks, Lynne
2005-06-08 08:09:11Nick BellamyHi Everyone, Recently discovered my GGG Grandmother was Mary Loveys of Hennock. Any info on the Loveys please email - nick@photolink.co.uk. Cheers!!!
2005-05-31 05:20:20Rachel LoveysHi, Wow, it`s amazing to see lots of Loveys`s. The only Loveys`s I know are all my close family in my hometown of Gloucester U.K.

2005-04-26 04:42:38Paul Loveys (UK)About the coat of arms. Many years ago my Father had a coat of arms sent to him and from memory I think there was a slight difference in that there is no helmet on the one he has. I will have to borrow it and see exactly what differences there are. Like Mark I`m also a bit cynical of these things. I have to see the evidence for myself. We Loveys` do like to spread about. My Father Albert originally came from Plymouth, We`re all living in Gloucester. There are 5 sons and 1 daughter, then 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren from this little branch. If anyone would like to get in touch email me at paulloveys@blueyonder.co.uk
2005-04-22 19:20:12Mark Loveys (UK)Thanks Mark - and thanks for the email. I only query the coat of arms since some of my students (I am a headteacher) recently conducted a study in school and looked for their coats of arms under Google (images). Every one who entered their name got a coat of arms out and some looked mighty similar to each other! I am afraid I am a bit cynical about these things, but will be pleased to be proved wrong. I will do some more research! What do you think Keith? By the way, one of my school governors recently moved to Chumleigh in Devon and says there are Loveys`s there. I seem to recall from the family tree that this was quite a centre for Loveys`s a few hundred years ago. She has invited me over to look around the churchyard in the summer. Will report back.
2005-04-21 14:23:42Mark C Loveys (Auckland NZ)Hi Mark
My understanding is that the coat of arms is genuine, although I`ll need to check with Keith Loveys for details as to where he found it.
I know of three Mark Loveys` - namely you, me and another in Canada that I found on the Internet. Up until the time you emailed me a few years ago, I thought I was the only one...
2005-04-18 08:52:30Mark E Loveys (England)There seem to be so many Mark Loveys`s around. And I thought I was unique! What about this family coat of arms? Is it genuine or is it one of these genealogy scams that are so prevalent these days? Any ideas out there in Loveys Land?
2005-04-18 08:42:21Mark Loveys (UK)Geoff - Arthur Loveys of Shelley Street was my grandfather. He married Grace Thompson also of Northampton and they had three children - Richard Eric (my dad) Margaret Emily (my aunt who never married and died in 1979 at a tragicaly young age) and Pamela Mary who marriedd when she was 50 and still lives in Northampton. Only my father had children - four sons who are still alive (my three brothers and me) and three of whom live in the Kettering area. My father died at 61 fourteen years ago. My mother Margaret Loveys (nee Rush) also of Northampton survives him. I remember stories of Auntie Florence and of Auntie Evelyn but never met them to the best of my knowledge. Our branch of the Loveys` is pretty isolated in Northamptonshire (although I now live in Dorset). My three brothers and I have 7 children amongst us, with two boys Dan (16) and Harry (7) to carry on the name. Contact me at mark.loveys@btinternet.com
2005-03-24 13:23:08Ward LoveysViewing page 18 on the Loveys Family Tree, you will note our Grandfather, James Waterhouse Loveys, born in 1867. In 1914 our Grandfather, a fisher, drowned at the shoreline of Western Bay, Colony of Newfoundland. Newfoundland joined Canada in 1949. In June 2005 3 siblings of his grandchildren will visit Western Bay. Ward Loveys, Chris Loveys Wintle, and Harry Loveys would welcome any knowlwge at jward305@hotmail.com, that you have of our Granfather and his era. Thank you.
2005-03-01 10:42:19Keith LoveysDoes anybody know what Loveys means or where the name Loveys comes from?
2005-01-21 13:07:04Lynne Loveys Kane Well, I am married to the "Kane". I live in Newfoundland, Canada, and there are some "Loveys" families here. There are not many, so making connections with others around the world would be great! I noticed that many of our descendants were of the `Church of England`. Here, we are mostly protestant...which I find intriguing. Is that why we are in Newfoundland! Plese feel free to contact me at I can help to fill in some spaces on the tree -but don`t know where to begin. Lynne
2005-01-15 09:24:14Tina StoweThere is a web site in Newfoundland where you can research your Loveys relatives. We believe we are the only Loveys` in NZ but we didn`t know we had relatives in Queensland. Please email to pcloveys@xtra.co.nz.
2002-08-30 17:54:23Keith LoveysHi James, nice to see you found the website and found it interesting, not sure if your grand father could be James Newton Loveys who was a lance corporal in the British Mediterranean Expeditionary Force of WW1 and was wounded in action, if so I do have a couple of articles on him (including and photo), e mail me at keith.loveys@btinternet.com and I will pass them on.
2002-08-28 07:27:20James LoveysHi folks, its nice to see the Loveys name is alive and well. I hadn`t had much success finding it through other means until I stumbled on it on the web. My dad, who`s name was James Newton, came to Nova Scotia from Western Bay, NFLD sometime in the forties. I believe his father`s name was also James who had a brother William who migrated to the US. Does anyone associate with any of this?
2002-08-25 11:09:49Ian BryantThis address was just sent to me by a fellow family historian in the UK. What a great find! There are Loveys connections to my family both in New Zealand and Hennock. I will forward the details as soon as I get a chance. Cheers. Ian. (Queensland Australia.)
2002-07-09 10:36:17Peter LoveysI have been thinking it would be great if participants in this website would include a short biography of themselves so that we would all be able to visualise them. Things to include would be: Full Name, occupation, family status, present location, place of birth and date, connection with Loveys family, interests and finally email address. Perhaps in the future we could devise a system to include a passport photo. To start it off, mine might read: "My name is Peter Clampitt Loveys, I am a retired Civil Engineer and I live with my wife Judy in Auckland New Zealand. I was born at East Grinstead, Sussex, UK on 27 Sept 1935 and my Loveys family roots are in Devon. I am interested in computers, photography, genealogy, cars, share market investment, sports and the environment. My e-mail address is PCLOVEYS@xtra.co.nz." What about Mark, Keith and you others following suit?
2002-06-16 14:07:14Jeff LoveysNOTE TO ELIZABETH BARRETT:My grandfather,Albert, was the brother of your grandfather. My dad was Albert E. who died on April 17th 1998.If you would like to keep or get in touch with me my email address is jloveys@sympatico.ca

2002-06-01 03:16:43Rhianna Cote Hello there, my mom is Jackie Cote a Loveys before marriage. Although I managed to locate her in here I couldn`t find myself. She is listed by having no children. I assure you she has a child, me! Well anyways I think this site is great except I think we need to get some pictures. That would be great! Oh ya my mom is the daughter of Albert E. Loveys, well one of them anyways! I`ve discovered there is more than one.
2002-05-24 14:00:48Peter LoveysHi Jamie, So your dad is a Peter Loveys as well! Is he on our database and / charts? What is his birthdate and where does he live? My wife and I lived in Montreal for five years in the early 1960`s and Mark and Susan, my son and daughter, were born there. We all moved to New Zealand in 1965 and we all happily reside in Auckland. Good to hear from you.
2002-05-23 02:15:03Paul LoveysGoing through some photographs recently i came across two that my sister (Sue Loveys) had taken whilst down in Dawlish with our parents. They are of headstones they found in a graveyard near Dawlish.(Only two because they were out of film)The inscriptions are ; In loving memory of Samuel Loveys who fell asleep July 27th 1897 aged 74 years "his end was peace" also Ann his wife who fell asleep Jan 25th 1901 aged 72 years "so he giveth his beloved sleep" The other is; In loving memory of Sarah Jane Loveys who passed home December 11th 1942 "for ever with the lord" also Bessie Copplestone Loveys died May 9th 1950 Samuel and Sarah Jane can also be found on the national probate calenders. Other photographs they took were of houses in Dawlish where some Loveys families lived.

I thought visitors to the site might like to know that my great aunt Edith Flood (nee Loveys), also born in Tiverton and now living in Cheltenham, had her 100th birthday last December, 2001, and is still an incredibly bright and alert lady.

2001-06-19 17:48:32Peter Loveys (pcloveys@xtra.coPat Hughes, I know of Andrea Herat (andreaherat@netlineuk.net) who is the 2x Great Grandaughter of Diana Loveys bapt 04/05/1834. She is researching in this area. I was last in contact with her in March 2000 and that was before we had the loveys.net website running. You might check that she is aware of it. Also please give her my regards. Great news about the photo of the Leonard Loveys wall plaque! It will need to be digitised so that it can be sent over the internet. If that is a problem, Mark or Keith will be able to help you. Incidentally, where are you? Mark is my son and he and I are in Auckland New Zealand.
2001-06-17 22:43:44Pat HughesPeter, I have taken a photo of the wall plaque in North Tamerton Church. It was not very clear but will let you know the result when I get it developed.
2001-05-19 21:59:28Pat HughesI would like to contact the person reasearching the tree of Dinah/Diana Loveys born 1834, Hennock, as I am researching the family of her sister Mary Ann born 1826 Hennock.

2001-03-30 09:21:44david loveysmy uncle stanley says that loveys means gentle warrior does anyone know if this is correct and where it comes from???
2001-03-30 07:14:59john loveysIn stafford there is me john,my brother david,my son jack my wife emma and my uncles stanley and dennis.
2001-03-24 16:34:38Peter LoveysFurther to my message of 03/02/01, I have now found out that the Leonard Loveys wall plaque is in North Tamerton church, about 10 miles north of Launceston, Cornwall. Ogbeare its-self, I am informed, is about 1.5 miles away on the B3254 about 7.5 miles north from Launceston. What about someone in the area taking a photo of the plaque - it would make a great addition to the website! I feel sure that eventually we will find that a lot of us are descended from Loenard Loveys!
2001-02-26 17:53:18Tracey JacksonHi Jo, Jed, Anna & Kate - I have just been looking at your lovely photos and have downloaded quite a few to take home and show the girls here in Adelaide. Hope you are all well. Tracey
2001-02-04 21:04:16Keith LoveysDoes anybody have a copy of the Visitation of Devon in 1620, it has got a section on the Loveys Family with a fair amount of detail of the Loveys lineage
2001-02-04 21:00:51Keith LoveysI am looking for the birth of Samuel Loveys, his marriage certificate of 1840 has his father as John, age as 24 (born around 1816), place of birth as Torquay. Has anybody come across his details whilst searching the Torquay parish registers.
2001-02-03 15:33:42Peter LoveysCAN ANYONE HELP? ! ! In 1974 my Uncle Tod (Lionel Godfrey Loveys) took me to a little church on or near Dartmoor, Devon and he showed me a plaque on the wall inscribed as follows: "Here lyeth Leonard Loveis of Ogbeare, Esquire dyed the fortynth daye of Apryll, AD 1576 General Receiver to ye Queen`s Majesty of all her Revenewes in the Counties of Devon and Cornwall." I thought it was in Ogbeare church but I have never been able to find any such place on any maps of Devon and Cornwall and I would love to know where in fact it was. Has any one else viewed this plaque and if so can you please tell me where it is! Is it possibly at the place now known as Ugborough? Incidentally, the above Leonard Loveis (Loveys in todays spelling) is clearly the Leonard Loveys showing on the second line of Tree No 20. Fascinating! I look forward to a response from someone.
